Manicure Monday: New Year Nails!

$

Hello Nubians,

It's Almost Time For New Years!

New Years is a fun time for everyone. We like to celebrate amongst friends and loved ones. We make resolutions and dance away the end of a year and the beginning of a fresh new one. New Years brings a lot of feelings to the surface and one of them is excitement!

Women especially like to glam up for the occasion. It's another excuse for us to go a bit over the top in the hair, makeup, and clothing department. I like to pay attention to detail and even like to do something a bit loud with my nails. You can go to a nail salon and get a nice manicure or the quickest fix I can offer you is some glitter nails! I gave myself a quick glitter manicure last night using Sally Hansen All Bright pink as my bottom coat and Sinful Colors Pride glitter nail polish as my top coat.

I think the only thing I might change perhaps is that for New Years I might buy some plain press-ons, paint them myself, and then use my KISS nail glue to apply. I may buy some press-ons too and get a little artsy. Below I'm featuring some New Year nail inspiration I found on Pinterest. All you have to do is simply change the year to 2016 and BOOM!

Which of these is your favorites? Think you'll try any of them out?

Cheers!

My Female Gambit Cosplay At New York Comic Con.

"You wanna play with Gambit? Here, pick a card!"

I had so much fun this past New York Comic Con. I think it was the most fun I had cosplaying in a long time. If you love fashion, makeup, hair, comics, and video games, cosplaying might be your favorite new hobby. I already told you the story behind my Ghost Rider cosplay and how it came together and now it's time to talk about Marvel Comic's Gambit from the X-Men!

I grew up watching the X-Men animated series along with my 2 older brothers. I used to LOVE it. I would wake up every Saturday morning and watch pretty much the whole Fox Kids line-up. I miss those days dearly...sigh. Anyway the X-Men animated series was like an animated telenovela for me. It was so dramatic! The story lines about Wolverine, Jean Grey, Rogue, Gambit, Beast, Jubilee and more were amazing. There was love triangles, people coming back from the dead, revolutions, new characters all the time, take overs, invasions, and much more. The characters all had intriguing back stories and very distinct personalities. One of my favorite characters was the ragin' cajun Gambit.

Gambit is from New Orleans, Louisiana which you may have guessed by hearing his thick cajun accent. His real name is Remy LeBeau. His mutant ability is that he can create and control kinetic energy. He's also very good and cocky at playing cards which is probably why he selected them as one of his favorite weapons of choice as well as the use of a boa staff. Besides his powers/abilities he has so much charm, charisma, is quite the looker, and I always enjoyed keeping up with his romance with Rogue. The best! Anyways let's talk about the cosplay....

About The Female Gambit Cosplay.

I was so happy to be to do a female Gambit. I've been planning to do a Gambit cosplay for some years now but I kept putting it off.

The first thing I purchased was the trench coat. I purchased the coat at a Unique thrift store in New Jersey about 4 years ago and I was saving it for this occasion. Secondly I purchased the wig at AliExpress. It was a short brown wig and my sister-in-law Kaori teased it a bit to give it volume. Next my friend Mary is a designer and she's the best because she helped me so much! She took a pair of black leggings and sewed on the magenta stripes. We purchased blue fabric and a light blue satin fabric and she made the neck piece and the belt with it. I purchased a magenta shirt at Walmart and attached the neck piece to it. One thing that gave the outfit a special oomph was the blazing red contacts I purchased here, everyone loved them.  The last thing I found was the over the knee boots. I couldn't find them in the light blue color so I purchased white boots and spray painted them the color seen in the photos.

My only regret with the cosplay is that I didn't get a chance to find the proper face piece I wanted that gambit wears. I was only able to find a headband. I will surely improve the face piece of the cosplay if and when I ever do it again. I'll even paint it on my face if I had to.

Bumped into some of my X-Men homies.

Crazy eyes.

Gambit meets Venom.

The photo above is some cool art ThatsBabore did of me after he saw my photo on instagram. I'm glad the outfit made people happy.

Lastly one of my Christmas gifts this year my brother gave me was this dope Gambit action figure and he took a photo of my female Gambit New York Comic Con cosplay and turned it into a comic book cover. Awesome right?! I love it.

I had so much fun during New York Comic Con. What's your favorite Comic Book character?

Cheers!

My Fantastic Mrs. Fox Cosplay At New York Comic Con.

$

Hello Nubians,

"We are all different but there's something FANTASTIC about that, isn't there?"

I am a lover of almost every Wes Anderson film ever I've seen. From the story line, the whimsical characters, the fashion and beauty, the gorgeous colors and decor, it's all amazing! One of the first films that got me into Wes Anderson was an animated film called Fantastic Mr. Fox(2009) based on the popular Roald Dahl book. Mr. and Mrs. Fox in the movie are voiced by George Clooney and Meryl Streep and they do a great job together.

About the Film.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is about a fox family. The head of the household Mr. Fox can't leave behind his farm raiding ways to live a peaceful life. Mrs. Fox is always trying to make sure he's behaving but I guess some habits are hard to kick and he always tells her white lies. After Mr. Fox gets his whole community in trouble and some farmers he raided try to get revenge, he must find a way to save and protect his community.

It's a very funny and charming movie. There are other very fun characters besides Mr. and Mrs. Fox that you'll get to know and love too.

 About The Cosplay.

I always thought Mrs. Fox was sassy and daring so naturally, I wanted to cosplay her. My friend Mary which helped me with my Gambit cosplay also helped me out making this dress. We purchased the yellow fabric and she hand painted the apples! Isn't that awesome? I'm forever thankful. She also made the ears which we purchased faux fur for because they looked nicer than the ears we already found made in the stores. I purchased the wig at AliExpress and didn't have to make any changes to it thankfully. It was already perfect to me. I had the gloves already which I purchased at a thrift store many years ago. Everything else kind of just came together. I purchased the blue contacts at loveshoppingholics, I've had good experiences with them and consider them a safe site for something as sensitive as contact lenses.

I did the fox makeup with basic halloween makeup I purchased at Walgreens. The trick is to use regular concealer under the face paint and then when it's all done make sure you go over it with a finishing powder. This way the makeup doesn't look oily being that it's not the best quality. By adding a finishing powder you give it a nice matte finish and it makes it look like you used a better product. I pretty much just did the fox makeup free hand and looked at some photos for reference here and there. I was very happy with the final results!

Back to back comparison.

Mrs. Fox and her friend Aladdin.

A beautiful, complicated relationship like many.

Thinking of joining Josie and the PussyCats.

"Because I'm a wild animal"

As I mentioned prior with my Ghost Rider and Gambit cosplays, New York Comic Con was tons of fun. I loved putting this cosplay together and walking around with my sassy fox tail.

Have you watched Fantastic Mr. Fox? If not, you totally should! Do you have a favorite Wes Anderson film?

Cheers!

Hello Nubians,

"A Colorful Life Is Always In Style."

I bumped into this editorial of Emily DiDonato for Vogue Mexico January 2016 shot by David Roemer and I felt the need to share it. The colors of the clothing, the fur, the voluminous hair, the simplistic makeup, everything about this editorial in the streets of NYC is giving me life!

I love the gorgeous details in this outfit in particular. The shimmery stripes, the V necked ruffles, and the flower neck choker in particular. I think it would make a great Spring accessory and it would be a very fun and easy DIY project.

Hello Nubians,

I was looking at an editorial from Vogue Japan featuring Mae Lapres and Madison Stubbington photographed by Alexandra Sophie. 2 photos that stood out to me specifically because I thought to myself *beauty alert* were the photos with colored eye lashes! I love my makeup and I know so many of you ladies do too. We've seen this trend before but I have a feeling it's on it's way for a major comeback 2016.

Lookie Here

I think this is a beautiful look for eye makeup especially when you have barely any makeup on or very natural looking makeup. It makes your eyes POP!

What do you guys think? Are you into colored eyelashes? A lot of brands like Butter LONDON, NYX Cosmetics, L.A. Colors and more sell pretty colored mascara.

Will you be trying this on your pretty lashes this year?

Cheers!

Hello Nubians,

Happy Monday My Beautiful Babes!

I made a YouTube video tutorial this weekend showing you how to get a gorgeous, retro, dramatic cat eye. This look was used a lot during the 60's and 70's by ladies such as Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy and more. Also, since glitter has been so popular lately, I decided to add some to this look! Fun stuff. All you'll need for this look is a nice eye liner, a good eye shadow, and some glitter makeup.

I put most of the look together by using the Revlon PhotoReady Eye Art Eye-Shadow which comes with both a creme eye-shadow on one side and glitter on the other.

Watch the video below to get the look in a quick and easy manner. Subscribe to my channel too for tons of new content coming soon. Make sure to visit my NubTube.

Dress Well And Always Be Happy.

Hello Nubians,

“Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy.” ― Anne Frank

Wearing Report booties, Forever 21 overalls, Sweater from ROSS, Tank top from H&M

Lately I've been spending a lot of ME time. I think every so often we should all do it. Kind of hibernate from the world a little and find inner peace. I've been working on a lot of projects, enjoying nature, working on my blog, working out, and focusing on bettering myself and being happy. However, I still like to get dressed up! I love doing my hair, makeup, getting dressed, and looking stylish every day.

On another note, I'm smitten with neutral colored makeup. I've been obsessed with eyeshadows that are red and almost like a burnt orange. Those color tones are so beautiful to me especially during this time of the year.

Tribal designs are never out of trend either... at least not for me.

Crunch, crunch, crunch.

Remember to always get up, get dressed, and be the best you that you can be every single day. It may sound a little cliche or I may sound like an instagram quote ha ha but it's true.

I'm Looking forward to the first few months and everything this new year will bring. How are you guys doing? What's new?

Cheers!

 Hello Nubians,

I was born with a fierce need for independence.

The other day I was heading out to meet someone and talk some business thangsssss. It's very important to always dress in a way that you look good, feel great, and people know you mean business so they can take you seriously. Confidence is KEY.

Eyes shadows from the Hard Candy "My Bright Life" palette and lips are Trestique lip crayon "Florence Fig".

(Moto Jacket from Topshop, Pants from Patty's Closet, Shoes from Zara, Top from ROSS)

I was rushing out of the house so I decided to wear something a bit dark (because wearing dark colors is quick and easy) but I added a bit of fun colors with that pants.

I am so in love with these Kendra Scott Danielle Earrings in Rose Quartz. They were part of my Rocksbox this month. "If I had my way, I'd wear jewelry, a great pair of heels and nothing else." -Jada Pinkett Smith

Have you guys heard of Rocksbox? (Special code at the end of this post). If you love and appreciate nice jewelry, I'm sure you would love this box! I received my first box last month and I'm so excited to trade it in for the next one already!

Here's How It Works.
  • Rocksbox gives you unlimited access to rent from an ever-rotating closet of designer jewelry. Every month you can get 3 pieces to wear on loan in your subscription box for a small fee of $19. Each piece is hand-selected for you based on a questionnaire you fill out when you sign up about your style and specific requests.
  • One of my favorite things about this deal is that there is no return specific date! Return your Rocksbox set anytime and as often as you like to refresh it for 3 new pieces.
  • Are you thinking about annoying shipping? Think again! Free, prepaid shipping both ways. Fits in your mailbox, crazy convenient.
  • You can also become a Shine Insider and enjoy the benefits. Borrow 3 pieces at a time, and swap your set anytime you want. Fall in love? You can buy any piece from your Rocksbox set. Each month you have $10 in Shine Spend to apply towards a purchase.
Every set has 3 pieces of designer jewelry, worth an average of $200 per set. I truly enjoy this subscription box because I think jewelry is something that should be refreshed often. This also saves you so much money and you get to rock beautiful gems. The only thing I believe should be put away and cherished forever are probably diamonds and pearls or something with sentimental value. Besides that, switch it up girlfriends!

My first Rocksbox came with the follow jewelry.
Kendra Scott Danielle Earrings in Rose Quartz.
Perry Street Gwenyth Necklace in White.
Gorjana Shimmer Disc Ring in Gold.

Did I mention how nicely packaged and presented the box is?

Lastly some more good news!

Go to the Rocksbox website HERE and enter my code NubiasNonsensexoxo to try 1 free month of Rocksbox! If you like it you can choose to continue your subscription.

I was so happy with my box and I'm smitten with the Kendra Scott Danielle Earrings in Rose Quartz, they're gorgeous!

How do you guys feel about jewelry? Cheers!

Denim Diva Style & Random Facts About Jeans.

Hey Nubians,

"I wish I could invent something like blue jeans. Something to be remembered for." -Andy Warhol

Wearing Levi jeans, Old Navy jean jacket, Ash Sneaker Wedges, H&M alien beanie.

I love Jeans! Remember when everyone was all over the double denim trend about a year or 2 ago? I still love it! I think one of my favorite denim brands is probably Levi Strauss & Co, they're such a good pair of timeless jeans.

Below I shall entertain you with some fun and random facts about jeans.
  1. The very first jean was the indigo color because it hid dirt better than lighter colors. It's still the preferred color amongst people.
  2. Orange thread that Levi Strauss & co. uses for stitching of their jeans is trademarked.
  3. Blue jeans were banned in public places in the 50s such as theaters, restaurants and schools. They were seen as a form of rebellion.
  4. Statistically, every American owns, on average, 7 pairs of blue jeans.
  5. One bale of cotton can be used to produce 225 pairs of denim jeans.
  6. About 450 million jeans are sold in U.S.A alone each year.
  7. Iconic movies such as Rebel without a Cause and The Wild One first made jeans popular with teenagers, a demographic that was only starting to emerge as a distinct group in the 1950.

You are next! I have a think for aliens ha ha.

How do you feel about denim? How many times a week would you say you put on a good pair of jeans? I actually have to go shopping for some soon.

Cheers!

Because Dita Von Teese Is A Master Seductress.

"The great seductresses in history knew that it isn’t just about trying to look sexy or pretty; it’s an art and one becomes skillful in it when she realizes that there are all these conflicting elements that all come together to make something magical." -Dita Von Teese

I saw this Dita Von Teese video late last year on Funny or Die and I thought I'd share it with you all. To me, Dita is a woman with a lot of power. I say that because I believe she's a master seductress. She's smart, pretty, a business woman, talented, well-spoken, she has so many features that make her 'sexy'.

Anyway, the point of me sharing this video is because I find it very funny. She can pretty much look sexy doing. Whether she's flossing, wearing a bluetooth headset, filing quarterly taxes, microwaving a meal, she's got it on lock. Ok, ok it kind of helps she's in lingerie but still! It's more than that.

It kind of makes me feel like we can't take everything so seriously all the time. Dita has been quoted saying it's not always about being sexy or pretty, a true seductress knows it's an art containing a lot of elements. I rather be considered a seductress!

We shouldn't over think everything. I often find the sexiest people I meet are happy, outgoing, kind and confident people. They don't have to be covered in pounds of makeup or be a master stylist. Sometimes those people may be covering their sexiness a bit. I suppose we all have a different definition of everything. But I personally feel when I try too hard to be sexy, it defeats the purpose.

Any-who, If you feel like a good laugh and haven't seen this video before, check it out! And remember to always carry yourself like a lady and a boss! And without even noticing it... you'll be looking sexy as hell. MUAH!

Cheers!

Super Models x Marvel Comics For Garage Magazine.

$
0
0
Hello Nubians,

You would think Marvel Comics and Fashion is a great mix right?

I love Marvel Comics, and I love the super models featured in GARAGE Magazine talking about their favorite super heroes but I do not like the way this editorial was put together.

For New York Fashion Week, Garage Magazine collaborated with Marvel to bring a Heroic experience to the world of fashion. I read that GARAGE was suppose to transform these models into Marvel's most powerful women and I do not pick up that vibe at all. Maybe I'm taking this a tad bit personal because of my love for Marvel comics and fashion.

Most of you know I'm a bit of a geek girl and I love going to Comic Con and cosplaying and reading comics books (which I need to make more time for!) so I just think this could have been done much, much better. I enjoyed the article way more than the photography. Get a few details about the story HERE

It says they are "styled as" the super heroes but honestly no characteristics or anything from the heroes translates in these photos for me. I'm not saying that the models had to cosplay at all, but even through the hair, makeup and clothing, they could have represented the characters better... maybe some props or something! How can you mix Marvel and fashion and come up with something so... plain. How do you mix 2 fearless worlds that are oozing with inspiration, color, and life and make it look so ordinary? This could have been something great with these top models but it just wasn't.

The five special edition covers feature Adriana Lima as She-Hulk, Candice Swanepoel as Spider-Gwen, Karlie Kloss as Black Widow, Lexi Boling as Captain Marvel, and Cuba Tornado Scott as Thor. The font is the only thing that reminds me of the comics. Below you can see for yourself.

Styled by GARAGE Fashion Director Charlotte Stockdale, with beauty direction by Pat McGrath.

How is this styled as She-Hulk? Are you kidding? This looks like a regular photo taken on any given day.

Spider Gwen? Just looks like a model in an athletic top to me.

Thor? I mean... the studs I guess. Blah.

Black widow with a mushroom haircut... I see. Honestly she might have done it best though.

Am I suppose to assume Captain Marvel because of the damn star on the jacket? Get real.

Like I said before, the models are all awesome but I ain't digging it. I think no true Marvel fan would care much for this. Honestly, I'm surprised Marvel even let this fly. There are a lot of girls out there like myself who have comics and fashion in their daily lives. We would have loved to see a bit more of imagination in this.

The one thing I did like is that they tried to compare some of the models characteristics to their characters in the article. You can check that out on GARAGE HERE. These ladies are pretty bad ass.

Hopefully someone will do something like this with Marvel again soon and spice it up a bit.

Cheers!

Hey Nubians,

Fashion should always be fun!

I love being colorful and fun with my style. I like to collect fun accessories and items that pop. Like many people, I like my personality show in my fashion sense.

Lately I've been loving the new gla.MAR.ous hair wraps. The one I'm wearing in these photo has the cutest little gold pineapple print. I'm planning to live in these for Spring/Summer. My alien bag is out of this world too :)

Wearing: New balance sneakers, Pants from ROSS, Top and cardigan from H&M, Rayban sunglasses, Tiny Visitor bag from Dolls Kill (purchased at Buffalo Exchange).

On another note, I passed by Lagasse's Stadium at the Venetian to watch the NBA All Star Game and had an awesome burger. Anyone trying to enjoy some good food, drinks, and great TV screens for sports should stop by.

I had a nice Valentine's day too. Filled with my loved one, food, drinks, laugh, and good vibes.

Pizza my heart

How was everyone's weekend? What's new? How do you add fun touches to your style?

Cheers!

Amazing Comic Book Makeup and Body Paint by Kay Pike!

Hey Nubians,

Let's talk about Kay Pike!

I was looking at INSIDER designs Facebook page when I found Kay Pike. A 28 year old bad ass body painter. She is literally bringing comic book characters out of the pages and into the real world with her body paint. Her work is insanely detailed and it looks very animated. A lot of these look way cooler than wearing a costume. I would love to do something like this for Comic Con one year.

If you're a fan of comicbooks you will definitely be a fan of Kay Pike. She's done kick ass characters from Captain Marvel, Poison Ivy, Robin, Deadpool and more. She has been livestreaming her work on Twitch which is awesome! It can take up to 15 hours but you get to see step by step how she does everything. The real deal, no editing or anything because it's live. It's a great learning experience and you'll also fall in love with her bubbly personality, she's fun to watch. Besides this she does modeling as a career.

Kay Pike is hoping to transform her body painting hobby into her new career and I seriously wish her the best of luck because it's out of this world.

Poison Ivy I painted on http://www.twitch.tv/kaypikefashion last time, and I am painting Again Tomorrow! I really like Pamela IRL. Ivy fights for the world itself, she is like Captain Planet... but a bit of a sociopath. :D Poison Ivy=planeteer haha.  I actually really prefer the New 52 Origin to the old one, its a little more twisted and human and convoluted. Shows she is indeed a neutral character, and ironically very human.  You'll find the animation appropriate as it refers to her M.O. *blows you a kiss* and personally my M.O., long time lurkers know what I am talking about :D This is the exact same wig I used for Starfire too~ a matilda in pumpkin from @ardawigs #poisonivy #bodypaint @ithurman @neilhimself @jimleeart @clarefoley123 @claregrant @milano_alyssa @tarastrong514 @jimmypalmiotti #redhair #yyc #calgary #bodyart @twitch @kryolanofficial @mehronmakeup @mehroncanada @sephora @bennyemakeup #mehronmakeup #kryolanofficial #mehron @wolfefaceartfx @ardacanada #makeupartistsworldwide #makeup #mua #makeupartist #comic #comicbooks #cosplay #cospaint #twitchcreative #twitch #dc #fanart @amazingmakeupart #beauty @comicbookresources  @geekfantasymagazine @comicsandcoffee @comicbookresources @geekculture @badasscosplay @epiccomicpics #wig @suicidesquadmovie #suicidesquad #ArkhamKnight #GothamCitySirens #dccomics #batman #PamelaIsley #green

This is the Captain Planet Bodypaint I painted on http://www.twitch.tv/kaypikefashion Tuesday night! “We need a super hero for the Earth. Let's call him Captain Planet" No other cartoon I watched as a child has had as much impact on my day-to-day adult life. This show respected it's audience. It was a ridiculous cartoon, yes BUT it got a young persons mind thinking about more going on in the world, not just the TV in front of them. This show handles and delivered to kids way more mature topics then any got anywhere else. Disease, desolation of species, environmental impact, racism, cultural-ism, economic and political issues etc. We got SO much more out of this show then others presented to us. I like being engaged with the real world. and Captain Planet really is my hero. :) #captainplanet #planeteers #eco #ecofriendly #environment #green #planet #earth #superhero #power #retro #cartoon #90s @twitch #twitchcreative #artist  #creative #art #paint #painting  #bodyart #illusion #opticalillusion #facepaint #facepainting #mua #bodypaint #makeup @kryolanofficial #paradisemakeupaq #mehron #mehronmakeup @mehronmakeup @mehroncanada PS. So many of you were asking in stream so here a special make-up hint I made this ridiculous florescent turquoise skintone that was soooo violent and radio-active looking on camera "Captain Planet Cyan" with 1 part Paradise Teal 1 Part Lt.Blue + 4-5 parts white.

Hello Nubians,

I think it's my adventure, my trip, my journey, and I guess my attitude is, let the chips fall where they may.
-Leonard Nimoy

(Wearing Mishka NYC hat, Ash Sneaker Wedges, Pants from Lucky Brand, Sweater from ROSS)

The weather has been beautiful lately in Las Vegas, Nevada. It's been in the 70's everyday which I consider perfect weather. The kind of weather where you can wear a light sweater but you can also sport a skirt if you choose.

As some of you may know, I moved to Las Vegas from NY a little over a year and a half now. I wasn't sure how long I would stay at first so I kept freelancing. I'm pleased to say I finally set some roots down and have my first job in Las Vegas as the Social Media Coordinator for the Aveda Institute Las Vegas and theg Aveda Salon & Spa in Downtown Summerlin.

I feel very grateful because I'm surrounded by a great team of people and the Aveda brand is in the realm of beauty & wellness which I am already obsessed with. I've learned so much more about the brand since I started my job a few weeks back. I love how Aveda is not just any other hair & beauty brand but they're really trying to change the world with their mission. They're very genuine about it and it's very much the daily lifestyle. It's all very inspiring and beautiful. I'm sure I will be randomly blogging about Aveda more because I admire the brand.

Being at the Aveda Institute is always fun and fulfilling because all the students are so excited and happy to start their journey. It's magic!!! The g Aveda Salon & Spa in Downtown Summerlin is lovely too! A great place to relax and the stylist are fabulous. Downtown Summerlin is also a fabulous place to go and get away for a while and enjoy some serious retail therapy.

(Photo from a recent Aveda campaign I think is rad.)

Pretty Green!

Besides my grand news (woohoo) I had a nice and casual weekend. I caught up on some work, saw a fashion show, worked on some art, and well... life has been pretty swell.

I hope you all had a nice weekend! Muah!
