Cool Gothic Lolita Fashion With Punk Rave.

Hey Nubians,

Take A Walk On The Dark Side Of Fashion.

Recently I bumped into the online shop 'Punk Rave' and I fell in love with so many pieces of clothing! They sell mainly Gothic Clothes and Lolita Style Clothing.

I've always been a fan of Gothic looks. The styles have so much personality and attitude. I frequently find beautiful silhouettes, romantic looks full of lace and wonder, Gothic Victorian Dresses, creative hoodies and there is so much detail in these pieces. If you really pay attention you'll notice interesting buttons, multiple buckles, trim and other glorious little touches.

It's easy to own a piece such as a black blazer that you may love but most of them are basic. In a store like Punk Rave, you find blazers with personality! With a noticeable architectural structure. Jackets and dresses that make you look like a rebel. Fashion that's edgy and makes a statement. Some clothing speaks for you with out you having to say a word.

Cosplaying Is Fun But Finding Fabric Can Be Difficult...

While I was strolling down the isles of New York Comic Con I bumped into Cosplay Fabrics by Yana Han. Finding certain fabric, print or textures for cosplay costumes can be quite difficult sometimes. They had a great selection. From feeling the fabric myself I can tell you it's a nice quality. Some options they had were scales, pleather, gun metal, military faux leather, brocade & more.

Often I Miss New York City...

I really enjoyed this editorial of Amanda Wellsh Photographed by An Le for Vogue Portugal January 2017. It makes me miss my home in Queens, New York. I remember so many nights I would ride the subway in sparkly, glitter dresses on my way to somewhere special. Other days I would be dressed in skinny jeans, ankle boots, and a cool trench coat for New York Fashion Week running up and down the streets. How can I forget those mornings riding the train with a refreshing grande coffee in my hands in an effort to wake up... just eager to take the day on. Always looking stylish, always staying busy, and always full of hopes and dreams. That's what New York was always for me in a nutshell. Inspirational in so many dark and heavenly ways at the same time.

Hello Nubians,

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a beautiful New Years Eve with your family and loved ones. Welcoming 2017 is exciting! 2016 was very strange for almost everyone I know so it's nice to feel a sense of pressing the refresh button.

I find that everyone gets obsessed with making resolutions but many times they are unrealistic and you may end up disappointing yourself which isn't fair. This year I decided to make a doodle list of'2017 Intentions' because they are all things I'm aiming to do throughout the year. I aspire to find enough time and balance to do enough of each thing but one thing I'm certain of is I will get around to all of them. This little doodle brings me peace.

Hey Nubians,

Add A Little Sass To Your Style.

Gorgeous and full of attitude, I think I was channeling my inner Cry-Baby's Wanda Woodward with this fashion outfit. It isn't exactly a pinup or rockabilly outfit, but I think I gave it a bit of a modern twist and mixed the look more with every day wear like my tee for example. You also have to consider the winged eye liner and kick ass faux leather jacket I'm rocking which ties back to my Wanda Woodward reference. I love encouraging fun fashion and the use of color therapy. A little bit of sassiness on top of everything doesn't hurt either.

Monday Motivation: Vintage Fashion & Beauty Photography by David Bailey.

Hey Nubians,

Don't you just wish you were born in the 60s?

Such amazingly cool and simpler times in the world in my opinion. Hair, fashion, makeup, photography and culture in general seemed a lot more pure, charming and seductive. Technology today, especially Social Media has had it's major ups and most certainly it's major downs when it comes to creativity and content now-a-days.

Considered a true visionary in contemporary photography, David Bailey is known for photographing some of the most compelling and daring images in fashion & beauty. He was also known as the most famous photographer in 'Swinging London'. What a time to live folks! I was roaming through these photos yesterday and they fed my soul a bit. You'll notice the gorgeous model Jean Shrimpton more than once in these photos because she was David Baileys muse. He once said about the model:

"She was magic. In a way she was the cheapest model in the world - you only needed to shoot half a roll of film and then you had it."

Enjoy the photographs below. I hope they inspire you to do something a bit different this week.

So after weeks of waiting, we finally got graced with a new episode of DC Comics The Flash 'Borrowing Problems From the Future'.

Where did we leave off you asked? Barry and Iris moved in together and he traveled to the future and saw her get shanked and murdered by Savitar. Talk about bittersweet eh?

Now in the midseason premiere we have our poor Barry Allen waking up to these nightmares and keeping his vision of the future a secret from Iris (Not for long thank GOD!). So this brings me to an interesting question you might be facing in your everyday life...

Hey Nubians,

Can You Be My Sweetheart?
Valentine's Day is around the corner and while I had a few free moments on a Sunday evening while sipping on some coffee, I started thinking about a simple yet attractive beauty: hair & makeup look I could put together. Now-a-days most looks I see on blogs or videos are so over the top! Too much contouring, or highlighter and 50 layers of foundation... I wanted to share something I thought was a bit more relatable and easy to do.

I put together a cute red glitter cat eye along with a nude lip. I also did a cute little unicorn hair braid on myself. I'll explain how I put together the look. Hope you enjoy it! Valentine's Day is a great day to feel beautiful on the inside and outside. Try to spend some time with a loved one. Cheers!

Hey Nubians,

I Don't Want To Grow Up.

I love putting outfits together that look like they don't make sense. This outfit for example, a sporty Sanrio Hello Kitty light jacket, A long thrifted glitter skirt, a backwards DC Comics Wonder Woman baseball cap and a pair of H&M boot heels. Many people might not think this ensemble works but I totally dig it. It's always been a thing I do. I belong to the world of print mixers and color blockers. I take joy in the unconventional and encourage others to always think out the box and have fun. Be confident! I follow many bloggers who dress fun and spontaneously. It doesn't always have to be too crazy but I like to push traditional boundaries a bit. Fashion is suppose to be fun after all.

5 Ways To Spend An Awesome Valentine's Day Alone.

Love Is In The Air ...
Valentine's Day is among us and I am dateless! Where will my chocolates, flowers, and shiny gifts be? My boyfriend will be working all night and I will be working all day. Therefore I might have a little something at home waiting for me haha (I better).Spare me with all of the "I don't celebrate Valentine's Day" "We celebrate love everyday" blah blah blah crap. Though to be honest, I do agree love should be celebrated everyday and to be quite frank I never cared much for Valentine's Day gifts. A simple hand written card or something creative would do the job for me. HOWEVER, It's hard not to get a little bittersweet and feel down because brace yourself... you will be seeing tons of affection all around you everywhere! Online, on the streets, in your nightmares... EVERYWHERE. The hugs, holding hands, gazing into each others eyes, kissing, the list goes on.

For the reasons above, I have decided to share some tips on how to spend an awesome Valentine's Day alone.

So Have You Watched Project Runway? This Is The Cosplay, Geek Loving Version!

I'm a big fan of cosplay and have been cosplaying for a few years now. I even wrote an article about how much I love going to Comic Con and dressing up as characters I like from Dc Comics, Marvel Comics, Video games & more. I'm also a big fan of the DIY (Do It Youself) community. For this reason I'm super excited about Syfy's 'Cosplay Melee' Competition series. I think cosplay has affected peoples lives in a magnificent way and broken plenty of people out of bubbles. It's such a supportive, fun, positive, community in my experience.

My Latest Hair Journey With Aveda Color.

Hey Nubians!

"Invest In Your Hair Because It's The Crown You Never Take Off"
A lot of people have been complimenting my hair lately and asking where I get my color done which is super nice. I've used a large variety of products throughout the years but lately I've been sticking to mainly Aveda products and Aveda Color. I've been getting my hair colored a nice lavender shade and dark brown by my friend/senior stylist Maria at g Aveda Salon & Spa at Downtown Summerlin in Las Vegas. She's a super sweet heart. The type that talks to you about your life, dances while she mixes color ha ha she's great.

My hair has gone through quite the journey to get to this happy place...

At some point in time my hair ended up looking like this photo below. It was a half blonde or I guess you can say blondish color and half dark brown. I was trying to slowly go platinum but decided to give up on that journey for now and focus on my hairs health after seeing some breakage.

If you want to have fun with your hair and be able to switch up 'Fashion Colors' pretty often Aveda is good because it starts fading after a few washes which either allows you to re-color it or switch to a new color. I also like that Aveda Hair Color is vegan and cruelty free. The color does not contain petroleum based chemicals which makes the water supply when you wash your hair much cleaner environmentally.

Aveda Artist mix their colors by creating a formula for it (they're like hair color scientist!) which means the color is customized just for you. It's a pretty cool concept and I love the thought of being more considerate towards the environment which this brand is VERY known for.

After a while with Maria at g Aveda Salon, TAH DAH! I absolutely love my color. There is also an insane amount of Aveda products I've been starting to use to make sure my hair slowly but surely gets to a luminous healthy state again. There's Dry Remedy, Split End Repair, Hair Masque, Color Conserve... the list goes on.

Gorgeous dimension to not make color look dull and boring.

A big perk with my color in particular is that it has faded very nicely as well. It looks like a silver kind of color now and I plan to keep it that way for a while.

Thanks to those of you have kindly complimented my hair. If you have any questions, leave them in the comment box below.

Horror Fans Rejoice! Tales From The Crypt Trailer and Why You'll Like It More Than American Horror Story.

Hey Nubians,

Where there is no imagination there is no horror.
-Arthur Conan Doyle

I saw the Tales From The Crypt Trailer by M. Night Shyamalan which will air on TNT and I must say as a horror fan I am immensely excited. I will be glued to my television! This show the same as the original which aired on HBO from 1989 to 1996 will be based on the popular comic series from EC Comics. I've always been so interested in M. Night Shyamalan and have so much respect for him because he's a risk taker and I love that! He might not have as many 'hits' as some other directors but he has a deek, dark, and vivid imagination. I would love to pick his brain. I recently watch "Split" which I enjoyed and was very creepy & "The Visit". Both of them had an interesting twist.

See the trailer below for Tales From The Crypt:

It looks so damn good! Thought I do fear that fact that it will be on TNT but hopefully that won't be a huge deal. This trailer showed suspense, freaky shit like people in a trance jumping off buildings or in gas masks, insects, the forest, paranormal aspects, & more. I like how M. Night Shyamalan mentioned that Tales From The Crypt was before it's time because I'd have to say I agree. I also likes how he refers to the Crypt Keeper as a "Dark Walt Disney" because Walt Disney was a person who was a great host and took us to this magical, wonderful place he created. I believe the Crypt Keeper does the same in taking us to a dark and eery place where we have to face our fears and he hypnotizes us and locks us in. I remember when I was younger I would turn on the original Tales From The Crypt on HBO sometimes (my parents weren't aware I was doing this) and I would have to turn it off at some point of the episode because I couldn't deal with the fear that was building up in my body. I would feel my heart slowly beating harder and harder against my chest. What is it about fear that almost makes it such an adrenaline rush. I remember closing my eyes slowly trying to fall asleep that night and then quickly opening them because I FELT the fear. I felt like there was something in the room with me. Probably not the best feeling for a young girl haha but I have been a horror fan my whole life growing up after that.

And I very much did love the Crypt Keeper because he was wicked. I use the word 'wicked' because he was scary but laughed about it and has quite the humor. He laughed at your fear and toiled with your emotions. He was an entertainer! I'm very please that M. Night Shyamalan is keeping this classic character as part of the show.

Now, Here's Why Horror Fans Will Enjoy This Much More Than American Horror Story... It's Quite Simple Really... IT ACTUALLY LOOKS SCARY.

(This clown was pretty freaky though)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing American Horror Story at all. I'm a fan of the show and have watched every season. It's just that I don't find it very scary truly. I look at it more like creepy, bloody, story telling. But it doesn't do 'that thing' for me. That thing that makes terror seep into my brain and crawl under my skin. I do think most seasons have had good story telling, and they have a stellar cast. I love Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and look forward to the return of Jessica Lange hopefully and maybe even Connie Britton now that she's done with Nashville. I find it entertaining more then anything else with a bit of blood splatter. Take AHS season 3 for example 'Coven', I enjoyed it but it was like a mix of Mean Girls mixed with The Craft. For reasons like these, I believe true horror fans will enjoy the Tales From The Crypt reboot more. I believe M. Night Shyamalan has a vision that we're all going to be pleased with. I guess we'll see if I'm right or wrong. I will continue watching American Horror Story because I enjoy it regardless (even though I wasn't the biggest fan of Roanoke.)

Anyway, I'm super excited for Tales From The Crypt to begin and I hope M. Night Shyamalan makes it genius.

Will you be watching? Thoughts?

Cheers!

4 Spring Fashion Trends That Are Everything!

Hello Nubians,

"Fashion People Are Special People."

I heard that quote in a song once and thought it was simple and beautiful. Fashion has always been one of my favorite creative outlets which is why I pay attention to the streets and social media outlets such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc. for anything that inspires me or moves me. New York and Paris Fashion week are always fun to follow too.

I think my favorite season is Fall but I also love Spring because it's similar. You can dress with a skirt but a light jacket, that kind of thing. Plus we usually look at it as a time to sport lighter colors. I don't really know who created these rules... Light Colors Spring, Summer, Dark Colors Fall, Winter... I think they were following the Sun. I don't follow any style rules or trends to a T but they do influence me a bit.

Below are some of the trends I've slowly had my eyes on that I think will make your a stylish gem this Spring.

Platform or Flatform Shoes

Do we have any Spice Girls fans here? Well rejoice because platforms and flatforms are back in style. I was always a fan of them for height reasons haha I like to wear heels but can never survive in them for too long. I've always been a fan of TUK Creepers. These shoes are from Gucci, Balmain, Dolce & Gabbana and Proenza Schouler runways shows. Use them as a source of inspiration. I'm really loving those Gucci ones with the buckles even though the whole look doesn't make much sense. Somehow they still make me gravitate towards them. (Stop it Nubia!)

Color Craze

Anyone who reads my blog knows I'm a fan or bright colors and color blocking. The brighter the better! Don't be afraid or colors my friend. Yellow is supposed to be especially popular this season but I'll probably stick more to pink, purple, orange and blue. Color therapy can do wonders for the soul.

The looks above in order are from Emilio Pucci, Tibi and Hermes Spring 17 runway shows. The Hermes is my favorite. It screams 80's and I love the waistline.

Embroidery & Strong Patterns

I love embroidery and honestly haven't rocked it an amazing piece of clothing with embroidery on it for years! This is something I am definitely going to be on the hunt for. I would love to find a nice embroidered denim jacket. These photos are from Gucci Spring 17. Funny one of the models is wearing flatforms and also I've digging the over sized glasses.

Ruffles/80's Glam

Lastly another look I haven't sported in a long time is ruffles. I always thought they were so elegant and romantic. I'm looking forward to finding a nice ruffles off the shoulder top. These jaw dropping, gorgeous dresses are from Zimmermann.

Good luck switching up your wardrobe. Wishing you all fabulous fashion and enjoyable warm weather.

Cheers!

DC Comics Wonder Woman Day and What It Means.

$

Hey Nubians,

I follow DC Comics on Instagram and about 2 weeks ago I saw they posted the image above reading "Wonder Woman Day June 3, 2017". I was excited about it but I still haven't heard any news about it and the photo had no caption. It's kind of a mystery for now.

I was very upset at the end of last year when the United Nations stripped Wonder Woman of her Ambassador role less than 2 months after she was awarded with it. I believe she served as the perfect figure for empowering girls and women. Truly the message she sent was immensely more valuable to me than if she was 'real' or not. However people were protesting about her appearance being too sexy amongst other things which in my personal opinion misses the whole point (Haters).

Anyway, the new Wonder Woman film starring Gal Gadot is set to be released June 2nd... coincidence? I think not! It's going to be a glorious woman empowering weekend! Nice job DC Comics! Plus we get to wear cooler clothing because of the weather so yay! Cosplayers are going to have a hoot with this one. Perhaps I shall get involved in the cosplay adventures myself.

Being that it's #ThrowbackThursday and all... A few years ago I wrote a post about finding your inner Wonder Woman and thought I would re-share it below. The struggle to find your inner Wonder Woman might be one of the hardest journeys in your life but she's in there, so never stop. Life is tough but we can all prevail.

July 2011 Post
Sometimes I ponder... Why are we so hard on ourselves? Maybe I shouldn't Sometimes I ponder... Why are we so hard on ourselves? Maybe I shouldn't say "we" but I know I am. I mean, people always give me a lot of credit and tell me what a great job I'm doing with certain projects or daily activities and I feel like I never truly believe their compliments... Is that strange? Perhaps I haven't fully found my inner Wonder Woman.

A few ways to keep your inner Wonder Woman in tact
  • Believe in yourself
  • Know that you are beautiful inside and out
  • Look back at your prior achievements/success
  • Only look back for positive reasons
  • Keep working towards your dreams
  • Take a step back and realize how many lives you've touched
  • Know that YOU make this world a better place
  • Be nice to others (good karma)
  • Smile!
  • Spend quality time with loved ones
  • Take personal time for yourself (peace of mind)
Wearing Alice & Olivia for Payless booties, H&M shorts, Material Girl Belt, gla.MAR.ous headband, Misc Corset.
Don't battle yourself.
All super heroes need their faithful companions by the way.

I think I'm discovering my inner Wonder Woman a bit more everyday. I push myself hard and when I reach my goals I am NEVER satisfied! It's a good habit at times because I strive for more but it's a tough habit to live with nonetheless.

So I'll give you the same advice I've been giving myself for a while.... "Place your goals in the sky and go after them.... Can't fly? Well learn or find another way to reach them" The payoff will most likely be well worth it.

You can interpret that in whichever manner suits you best. I promise you, it's a good thing.
Toodles,
Xo Nubia Xo

P.S. Tis no secret I love comics eh?

Pretty Pastel Makeup For Spring!

Hey Nubians,

Spring Has Sprung!

I'm so happy it's Spring! Spring is such a transformation season and all over healthy for the soul. People are itching to switch up their fashion, hair and makeup. It's a great time to create an inspirational vision board and see what attracts you. As most of you know, I love colors. Spring is a great time to break out some cute pastel colors.

I noticed when it comes to beauty, Sally Hansen and Rimmel London have some gorgeous pastel colors you might want to pick up right now especially considering easter is around the corner.

Rimmel London: From total babe Kate Moss Nude’s Collection, these beautiful neutral pastels will add just the right amount of spring to your lips! These are the shades #40 and #41. 40 probably wouldn't work great with my complexion but it's still a great color.

The pink below is precious. It's from Rimmel London's new Oh My Gloss Oil Tint Collection. I believe the cover girl for this collection is Rita Ora.

Sally Hansen always nails (no pun intended) Spring time with their beautifully pigmented and innovative nail color collections! They are one of my favorite drug store brands. I remember when I was younger, it was always my mom's and my favorite go-to brand for color and quality. These shades are perfection from their Insta-Dri and Miracle Gel collections.

These are some cool drug store purchases that cost 10 dollars or less each. Looking fab on a budget is a good way to start the new season. Plus that means extra money for traveling :)

Who's super happy it's Spring?!?!

Looking For Love With Charlee Fraser For Vogue Australia April 2017.

Hey Nubians,

Looking For Love?

I bumped into this editorial of Charlee Fraser photographed by Sebastian Kim for Vogue Australia April 2017 and it caught my attention therefore, I thought I'd share. Fashion wise when you look at the styling, the outfits look like a mix of the 80s with modern flair. Big shoulders, lots of lady blazers and cool almost full monochromatic looks.

I've always enjoyed a fashionable blazer and thought they could be used for way more than being at work. Why is it that when people think of a blazer their head automatically goes to an office room? Most people I know don't like wearing them outside of the office. What a tragic styling misconception. Blazers are a powerful piece of clothing and should be used as such at any given moment. I've often mixed a good blazer with denim and a pair of combat boots. I almost look at them as a super heroine cape in a poetic light. It's statement clothing.

I enjoyed the video that accompanies this editorial because it's called "Looking For Love" and they're in the city. Almost everyone in the city is looking for love. It's not always necessarily looking for it in a person either... but in a hobby, a job, or within ourselves. Love is a tricky, tricky, thing. You might love looking for love! No go figure out that mind-fuck delicate puzzle.
